  • a The complete set of samples was stained and counted on four separate occasions. Mean ± SE for 5 samples stained with BPDE-DNA antiserum was 1.8 ± 0.3 AU. Linxian mean value was statistically significant (P = 0.052) by mixed effects model compared to the mean value for 4 unexposed monkeys(c) stained with BPDE-DNA antiserum.

  • b Samples were stained and counted once. Mean ± SE for 6 samples was 0.3 ± 0.1 AU.

  • c Monkeys 1 and 4 were stained with BPDE-DNA antiserum and counted once with Linxian samples. Monkey 2 was stained with BPDE-DNA antiserum and counted three times with Linxian samples. Monkey 3 was stained with BPDE-DNA serum and counted twice with the Linxian samples. Monkey 3 was counted on two additional separate independent occasions with values of 0.05 and 1.08. This additional data was included in the statistical analysis. Mean ± SE for 4 monkeys was 0.7 ± 0.2 AU.
